Where did the last few hours go?
Do you ever just stare at the wall and then realize that 2 hours just went by, and you have absolutely no idea where that time went? Since the pandemic, I feel like those moments are happening a lot more often… because they are.
Making Tough Transitions
As we come to the end of the year and I reflect on everything I’ve been through personally and professionally, I can’t help but think how did I make it through all those transitions?…Okay let’s be real, how am I still managing through them?
My journey with ADHD and food
Eat balanced meals and snacks as often as I can, Don’t restrict yourself, EAT IT and maybe pair it with a protein when you can (or don’t), leave room for fun treats, make it easy, quick and convenient & have as much fun as possible.
Declutter your mind
What if I told you we can find the middle ground where you can have more time to hyper focus and have the breaks that you need so you don’t crash by the end of the day?
What your favorite games tell us about your strengths
The games we are typically attracted to typically have so much to do with our natural skills, abilities, strengths, satisfaction and enjoyment. If you despise a game, it’s highly likely it requires us to use the skills we might not be very good at, or have very little interest in
What helps my decision fatigue around food
When it comes to preparing a home cooked meal, I get decision fatigue. I want to share with you the ONE thing that has helped me with this and made it easy for me to cook a nice meal.
Breaking the Cycle of Getting Fired
One of the reasons I wanted to start Cape-able Consulting was the fact that I know people with learning disabilities and/or ADHD are incredibly bright, talented, and most of all cape-able of so many things. However when it comes to the workplace a lot of our shortcomings become front and center.
Quiet Quitting…the Trend is Likely Here to Stay
Living and working in NYC for over a decade I had been surrounded by this culture of “the busier you are the more important you must be”. Everyone you would talk to (including myself) would rattle off everything you had to do for work, home, and everything in between and you were always in a rush with a cup of coffee ready to move on to the next thing on the list.
Pregnancy, Parenthood, and Executive Functioning
On July 14, 2022 my husband and I had our first child, a beautiful baby girl, and it was truly the best birthday gift we’ve ever received… No really she was our birthday gift because my birthday is July 16th and my husband’s is July 19th. We’ve been soaking up all of those newborn snuggles this summer as we get to know her and get to know ourselves in this new role as parents.
Favorite Snacks for When You Get Hyper-Focused and Need to Eat
Something very unique to someone who has ADHD is their ability to hyper-focus. It can be an incredible gift to do days worth of work in a matter of hours. However, it does have its downfalls. Many people with ADHD forget to listen to their bodies’ needs…
Change is Really Hard
As my clients know I love to know what their favorite and least favorite game is to play. I think there is a lot that comes to the surface when we know what attracts/repels us to games. Typically we are drawn to games that fit the way we think, challenge us, help us feel accomplished, and overall make us feel really good…
I’m an Adult and I Was Just Diagnosed With an Ld And/or ADHD…Now What?
Congrats! Welcome to the club…we’ve got jackets. As an adult getting a diagnosis for the first time comes with a multitude of emotions. Some might feel angry or frustrated that it took this long, others feel relieved that after all this time they finally have answers for how they are feeling and others might be feeling all of the above and then some. But let’s start with the positive.
Favorite Adult ADHD/Learning Disability Friendly Products for Work
When I meet with new people and I talk about what I do a lot of the conversations turn into “Are there any products you use that make the effects of your Dyslexia and ADHD easier to manage work”? The short answer is yes. BUT, these products alone would not have made a huge difference had I not had a lifetime of support for my disabilities.
New Courses to Help You With Job Transitions
I am BEYOND excited to finally share something I’ve been working on for months and that is the launch of these TWO NEW COURSES. These courses are really the foundation of what made me want to start Cape-Able Consulting to begin with because as someone who had the privilege of having resources all the way through college for my dyslexia and ADHD I felt completely unprepared for what came next in my career.
Love/Hate Relationship with the Word “Resilience”
I’ve had a love/hate relationship with the word “resilience” for a really long time and it didn’t occur to me until recently why that is. People have often said to me you are so resilient and they mean it to be a compliment but the truth is no one WANTS to be resilient they are often FORCED to be resilient and that is what makes it exhausting.
ADHD Travel Hacks
When I was in high school I had the privilege of traveling for 6 weeks on a teen tour across the West Coast of the U.S. and the Canadian Rockies. During that summer I lived out of a suitcase as we traveled from campsites to college campuses to hotels exploring different national parks, museums, popular sites and so much more.
Advocating For Yourself in the Workplace
There are many ways you can advocate for yourself without disclosing that you have a disability. Your disability status is for you and you alone to share and you should never feel pressured to share it if you don’t feel like you are in a safe and welcoming place to do so.
Mental Health Awareness Products
Let’s face it. The last few years have certainly taken a toll on our mental health and there is no shame in saying you could use some support or a pick me up to help make the days, weeks, months feel just a little easier.
