I’m an Adult and I Was Just Diagnosed With an Ld And/or ADHD…Now What?
Congrats! Welcome to the club…we’ve got jackets. As an adult getting a diagnosis for the first time comes with a multitude of emotions. Some might feel angry or frustrated that it took this long, others feel relieved that after all this time they finally have answers for how they are feeling and others might be feeling all of the above and then some. But let’s start with the positive. YOU likely took the initiative to get the diagnosis. I’ve often joked about the fact that sometimes just getting the diagnosis is the hardest part of the process because it requires so many steps…ironically part of the disability of ADHD is lack of follow-through…so by all means please make the process harder lol. In all seriousness, you should be proud of yourself for taking the steps to get this far. So the real question is now what?
There is no right answer to this question of where you should start as long as you start somewhere. Understand that getting the diagnosis is just the beginning of the journey of rediscovering yourself and getting the support you need is going to take work regardless of where you start first. If you are overwhelmed just know that you are not alone.
If you decide that you just want to get your feet wet when it comes to getting support then check out the “Declutter your life support group”. Once a week we work on strategies to help you manage your life in a way that makes sense to you. And have the support from an experienced coach, connect with other adults with learning disabilities and/or ADHD and help give you the nudge you need to follow through on the right next steps for you.
