Favorite Adult ADHD/Learning Disability Friendly Products for Work
When I meet with new people and I talk about what I do a lot of the conversations turn into “Are there any products you use that make the effects of your Dyslexia and ADHD easier to manage work”? The short answer is yes. BUT, these products alone would not have made a huge difference had I not had a lifetime of support for my disabilities. While there is no size fits all approach to getting the support you need for your adult ADHD or learning disability status having some type of intervention between meeting with a coach (maybe me), working with a therapist to manage the emotional aspect, and working with a doctor if you feel that medication is right for you should be your first steps. With that said I have certainly found that there are products that have made my life easier on a day-to-day basis as well as managing when I am out of my routine.
Let’s start with setting up your office. When it comes to your office people with ADHD typically struggle with something called out of sight out of mind. Meaning if it’s out of the way we typically forget it exists. So I like to start with what is necessary to be on my desk.
Pen holders and phone chargers make it easy to only keep something out that you know you will need immediately and it even charges your phone.
I’m also a sucker for physically writing tasks and to-do lists and these are my absolute Favorite pens.
In my opinion, you can never have enough post-its. I like these a lot because they have lines and help me stay organized.
For inside the desk it makes it so much easier to stay organized when everything has a place. Desk drawer organizers keep everything categorized in a way that makes sense to you and therefore makes it easier to put things back. But the best part is making it easy to see what I have quickly.
It is also a big struggle for people with ADHD to stay hydrated and like I said when it’s out of sight it’s out of mind. Having this Water bottle with a straw makes it easier for me to take places and remember to drink because of its handle (which fits in the car cupholder) and I often have more than one so if it’s in the dishwasher I have no excuse. Or you could be like me and double fist with coffee and water haha.
A few other critical pieces to my desk are having a reliable pair of Noise-canceling headphones. I’ve tried so many brands over the years and these are my favorite by far.
This is the perfect chair. If you are like me, you can never get comfortable sitting in a typical chair properly. This chair has so many options and makes it easier to sit in my favorite position; the crisscross apple sauce style.
And this new up-and-coming new fidget toy is these squishy pop-it balls. This is ideal because it’s not loud or distracting while you are on the phone or in a meeting and give you all the sensory fixes.
Can’t wait to hear about what products you like the most!
