Advocating For Yourself in the Workplace
I realize I may be in the minority when it comes to talking about my disabilities. I’ve spoken about it openly my entire life and never really shied away from the discussion. With that said I would never recommend that to my clients if that was something they didn’t feel comfortable doing. There are many ways you can advocate for yourself without disclosing that you have a disability. Your disability status is for you and you alone to share and you should never feel pressured to share it if you don’t feel like you are in a safe and welcoming place to do so. However, what you should know is that if you ever feel like you are being discriminated against or at risk of being fired because of your disability you and you live in the United States you should be aware that you are protected by the American Disabilities Act (ADA).
